Circle K Franchise Model Overview
A Circle K Business is a combined convenience store and gas station: grocery, consumer goods and food service inside, Circle K-sourced motor fuel outside, and an optional car wash. The store must run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the royalty rate can rise if it does not. The franchisee signs both a Franchise Agreement and a Motor Fuel Agreement, posts a fuel security deposit, and buys fuel from the franchisor, so this is as much a fuel-supply relationship as a retail franchise. A new build is a multi-million-dollar project driven by construction, site work, fuel equipment and fixtures; converting an existing store and station costs considerably less. Ownership does not have to be hands-on, but a trained on-premises Key Person must supervise daily operations. The franchise program is young, launched in 2019, with 72 franchised units at the latest fiscal year-end against roughly 4,600 company-operated stores; existing company stores are sometimes sold to franchisees, with required upgrades due within nine months of possession.
