Auntie Anne's Franchise Model Overview

Auntie Anne's shops hand-roll and bake soft pretzels in view of the customer and pair them with dips, lemonade and frozen drinks from a compact counter-service footprint. Most shops sit in enclosed malls, outlet centers, airports and similar captive-traffic venues; trailer, food-truck and Cinnabon or Jamba co-branded formats also exist. A full shop is a modest build, with the range driven mostly by construction and venue; there is no dining room and the equipment package is small. Fees are on the higher side at 7 percent royalty plus a 2 to 3 percent ad fund and a 1 percent local spend. Owners need not work in the shop, but each shop must have two trained managers on premises and absentee investors are discouraged. The system is large, almost entirely franchised and growing modestly. Item 19 reports quartile net sales for mall, outlet and airport shops. Transferees retrain and remodel, and the franchisor holds a right of first refusal.

Ideal owner profile

Hands-on operator or owner who will staff two trained managers per shop
Comfortable with mall, airport and venue landlords, their hours and percentage-rent leases
Low-to-mid six-figure capital for a counter-service build with a small equipment package
Multi-unit operators can scale with a Director of Operations and co-branded Cinnabon or Jamba formats
Experience running a simple, high-volume snack menu with hourly teenage and part-time staff
