BNI Franchise Model Overview
A BNI franchise is a defined territory in which the owner, the Executive Director, launches and supports chapters of business professionals who meet weekly to exchange qualified referrals. Members pay subscription fees; the franchisee trains chapter leadership, recruits and retains members, and manages a team of director consultants. There is no physical location: the franchisor assumes a home office, and the investment is light, with the initial fee scaled to territory population and the balance going to training, supplies, Zoom licenses and insurance. Royalty is a steep 20 percent of gross revenue with a territory-specific annual minimum. The principal owner must hold at least 51 percent, live in the territory and work full time, with managers approved only in limited cases. The system is roughly half franchised and half affiliate-owned, and unit counts have been flat for three years with one or two transfers annually. Transfers require franchisor approval and a fee of 5 percent of the sale price.
