Chicken Salad Chick Franchise Model Overview

Chicken Salad Chick restaurants are fast-casual, counter-service restaurants with a limited menu of specialty chicken salads, gourmet sides, soups and a proprietary cake line, built around prompt, friendly service in a clean, wholesome setting. The concept started in Auburn, Alabama in 2008 and remains heavily Southeastern. A unit is a leased-space build in the high six figures, with leasehold improvements and the equipment package making up most of the cost; a drive-thru adds modestly. Royalty is 5 percent of gross sales and the brand fund is currently 2 percent, with room to rise to 4 percent. The owner or a dedicated operating partner with a financial stake must personally run or directly supervise the restaurant, with a trained general manager on site otherwise. Owners of 10 percent or more sign a personal guaranty. The system adds roughly 30 to 40 restaurants a year, and the affiliate operates nearly a quarter of all units, periodically selling blocks to franchisees.

Ideal owner profile

High-six-figure capital with lending capacity for a full leasehold build-out
Comfortable with a daytime, lunch-heavy concept and strict hospitality standards
Multi-unit operators fit the Area Development Agreement with reduced per-unit fees
