Church's Chicken Franchise Model Overview

Church's Chicken restaurants serve original and spicy fried chicken, classic sides and honey butter biscuits for lunch and dinner through a quick-service format that leans on drive-thru, to-go and delivery rather than dining room traffic. The current Blaze prototype is a small freestanding building, with conversion and end-cap formats available at lower cost, and the investment is a seven-figure ground-up build dominated by site work, construction and equipment, with real estate on top. Royalty and advertising each run 5% of sales, so the combined take is heavier than many QSR peers. Every franchisee signs a development agreement even for one unit, and an operating principal with at least 10% equity must run the restaurants full time and live within reasonable driving distance of one. A continuity group holding 51% and all 5% owners sign personal guarantees. The system has roughly 720 franchised and 160 company-owned domestic restaurants; franchised count declined through 2024 and ticked up in 2025, and transfers have been concentrated in Texas and Georgia.

Ideal owner profile

Hands-on QSR operator with experience running drive-thru volume and hourly crews
Operating principal holding at least 10% equity, living near the restaurants, working full time in them
Capital and lending for a seven-figure build plus real estate, or a lower-cost conversion
Comfortable with a 10% combined royalty and advertising load and brand reimaging standards
Open to developing additional units under a required development agreement
