Jack In The Box Franchise Model Overview

Jack in the Box restaurants are quick-service outlets serving hamburgers, specialty sandwiches, fries, tacos, salads and bowls, most with a drive-thru window and seating for 20 to 100. The franchisor is a securitization entity managed by Jack in the Box Inc., which also runs the roughly 150 company restaurants through an affiliate. A ground-up build is a seven-figure project covering site work, building, equipment and three months of working capital, and many franchisees lease their location from the franchisor's affiliate under minimum-plus-percentage rent. Royalty and marketing fee together take 10 percent of sales. The franchise term is 20 years. Every restaurant needs a designated Operator holding at least 25 percent equity with deep quick-service experience, plus a full-time Certified Restaurant Manager on premises who can run only one store. The system is large and mature but shrinking: franchised units fell by 55 in fiscal 2025, with Texas accounting for most of the closures. Item 19 provides sales and operating-cost data for franchised restaurants.
