The Melting Pot Franchise Model Overview

Melting Pot restaurants serve cheese, entrée and chocolate fondue as a multi-course experience, with guests cooking at in-table cooktops, plus a required full liquor program. The restaurant is built for date nights, celebrations and lingering dinners rather than turnover, and runs mostly evening hours with a full front- and back-of-house team. Units occupy roughly 3,400 to 5,000 square feet of leased space, ideally second-generation restaurant space in a strong retail hub, and the investment runs well into seven figures because of leasehold improvements, in-table cooking equipment, design-firm fees and an extensive training budget. Local fire codes could also require ventilation hoods over the tables. A controlling owner must directly supervise the restaurant. The brand has franchised since 1984; the system has been roughly flat for three years, and the handful of non-franchised units belong to shareholders and affiliates rather than the franchisor itself. Successor terms require a remodel, which a buyer of an older restaurant should price in.

Ideal owner profile

Experienced full-service restaurant operator comfortable running a bar and wine program
Controlling owner who will directly supervise the restaurant; split-ownership deadlocks are not allowed
Capital for a seven-figure build or the remodel required at successor term
Strong at hospitality culture and training servers to deliver a long, multi-course experience
Comfortable with an evening-heavy, celebration-driven sales calendar
