Gold's Gym Franchise Model Overview

Gold's Gym facilities are large full-service health clubs offering strength and cardio floors, group fitness, optional Gold's Fit and Gold's Burn studio programs and personal training to a membership base. A new club is a seven-figure leased build-out of about 25,000 square feet, with construction, selectorized equipment, free weights and cardio machines making up most of the cost; a presale period precedes opening, and real estate purchase is extra. Royalty is 5 percent of gross revenue with a monthly floor, plus a marketing contribution and required local or cooperative spend. The franchisor recommends but does not require owner involvement; a full-time, trained on-premises manager must run the club, and management companies and outside contractors for personal training or ancillary services are prohibited. Owners of 20 percent or more sign personal guarantees. The U.S. system contracted sharply in 2025, with franchised clubs falling from 159 to 132, driven largely by California closures, and more terminations followed year-end.

Ideal owner profile

Well-capitalized operator or group able to fund a multi-million-dollar club build-out
Full-time, trained on-premises manager required; owner involvement recommended but not mandatory
Experience with membership sales, presale campaigns and large hourly staffs
Comfortable with personal guarantees for owners holding 20 percent or more
Multi-unit developers can secure area rights with a two-to-five club commitment
