Spherion Staffing Franchise Model Overview

Spherion General Staffing franchises recruit, screen and place temporary employees and permanent hires with local employers, mainly in office, administrative, non-clinical healthcare, call-center and light-industrial roles such as warehouse and assembly work. The franchisor, part of Randstad, runs the back office: it carries temporary workers on its own payroll, funds weekly wages, invoices the client and pays the franchisee a commission out of gross profit, so the owner's job is sales, recruiting and client service rather than payroll finance. The office is a leased space of roughly 1,500 square feet in a defined market area, and the investment is low six figures with working capital the biggest line. The Managing Owner must work the business full time unless the franchisor allows a trained manager plus a dedicated salesperson and recruiter. The system is fully franchised and has contracted for three years, partly through consolidation of overlapping offices. Transfers require franchisor approval and a buyer who lives in the market.

Ideal owner profile

Full-time Managing Owner, or an approved manager backed by a dedicated salesperson and recruiter
Background in B2B sales, staffing, HR or recruiting; comfortable selling to plant and office managers
Low-six-figure capital with reserves for six to eleven months of office payroll
Willing to live in the market area and build relationships with local employers
Experienced staffing professionals and veterans qualify for a 25% fee discount

Investment Snapshot

Initial franchise fee $30,000 – $50,000 (by market size tier); 25% veteran or staffing-industry discount
Total initial investment $132,980 – $301,040
Royalty Gross-profit split: Spherion bills clients and runs payroll, then pays the franchisee a commission on Temporary Gross Profits (rate in Item 6 Note 3); plus a Franchise Support Fee of 1.9% of gross payroll and 1.9% of Full-Time Placement Sales
